![]() If you don't have a backup, you'll have to make one. Ultimately your most thorough option is to re-partition (not just erase) your entire hard drive, then restore from a Time Machine backup (you have one, right?) or some other backup. ![]() I could be wrong on that though, and even if you do get there, some El Cap files may already be partially installed, in which case I don't know what it will be like. It's been a while since I was back doing tech support, but I suspect if you reset the PRAM, it will boot to your regular partition. I believe your computer is booting to that partition by default, which continues the installer. When you begin installation of a new OS, it creates a partition on your hard drive from where the installation is facilitated.
